Marrybrown : Muslims’ alternative to KFC
Kentucky Fried Chicken or KFC is gone from the restive deep South. But here comes Marrybrown fried chicken from Malaysia catering to the appetite of the Muslim consumers.
Marrybrown, the Malaysian-born fast food chain store, opened its first outlet in Thailand in Yala’s Muang district on January 8 after the closure of the only KFC outlet in the far south last year for security reason. The venue of the store used to be the KFC outlet.
The Halal fast food chain store was jampacked by Muslim customers on its opening day. Ever since, the store has been a favourite joint for Muslim customers of all ages, not just from Yala but also from neighbouring provinces of Narathiwat and Pattani.
Mr Yamaluding Sareeyor, the manager of Marrybrown’s Coleseum outlet, told Isra news agency, that the outlet offers an alternative for real Halal food for Muslim consumers.
For the past two months, the store has become popular for Muslims and non-Muslims alike as Muslim customers can rest assured that the food are 100 percent Halal.
The store which is staffed by 30 Muslim employees opens seven days a week as staff members take turns to man the store. The employees are well trained and all of them have gone through a 45-day training programme in Malaysia.
As for the menu, Yamaluding said the menu was original from Malaysia but the raw materials used to prepare food are locally acquired. He added that new menu to meet the tastes of the locals would so be introduced.
