Ameen: the first Thai-produced movie about Islam
Ameen, the first locally-produced movie about Islam and Mohammad the Prophet, has been warmly greeted in the three southernmost provinces with tickets for the first few shows fully booked and Malaysia has shown interest in the movie.
In Bangkok, another special show was scheduled on Saturday March 14 at the TOT public company’s head office on Chaengwattana road. Several VIPs have shown interest to watch the film, among them were former prime ministers Chuan Leekpai and Abhisit Vejjajiva, wellknown preacher Phra Maha Sompong Tarnputto and Pol Col Thavee Sodsong, former secretary-general of the Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre.
Jointly produced by White Channel TV and the Muslim Foundation for Peace, Ameen is the story of a mysterious young man who tries to rediscover himself after he lost his memory in a remote village near the Myanmar border.
The movie features Ray McDonald as the main star and other wellknown Thai stars who include Suchao Pongwilai, Chumporn Theppitak, Thiti Poom-on, Atip Nana and Thongkhao Pattharachokechai.
Ray told Voice TV at a press conference to present the movie that he felt satisfied to be a part of the movie and that everyone in the team was full of faith.
Thiti Poom-on who played the role of Imam Adam in the movie said that anyone who has seen the movie will have better understanding and attitude toward Islam. He called on members of the public to take time off to watch the movie.
Ameen premiered at TOT company’s auditorium on March 7 after which the movie were shown in Pattani, Narathiwat, Yala and Songkhla provinces. In Pattani, the premiere show staged at CS Pattani hotel on March 8.
Mr Husen Mumin, an executive of White Channel TV station said that the movie was intended to create understanding toward Islam. He pointed out that many people of different religious faiths did not understand Islam resulting to conflicts.
