Another innocent’s life lost for no clear reason
"What wrong did my mother do? Why did they have to shoot my mother?"
The above questions were asked by 18-year old Arsum Wansu, the eldest son of 35-year old Mrs Suhainee Longsa, an official at the rehabilitation centre of Tambon Kayuborkor municipal, Raman district of Yala.
The Muslim woman was shot dead by a gunman riding on the pillion of a motorcycle in front of her two children after she had just picked them up at the school and were on their home. Her four-year old child also suffered gunshot wounds in the unprovoked attack.
Arsum was not at home on the day his mother was shot dead which was on June 27. He was in Satun province and immediately rushed home after he was notified of his mother’s death.
Arsum told Isra news agency about his father who was shot dead seven years ago. "It was the Rayor day and father went to the masjid in the morning as usual to pray. He was shot dead in the mosque by gunmen," recalled the young Muslim who admitted that he had no idea at all what was the real reason for the killings of his parents.
He said that he would feel much better if his mother died from illness because, at least, he knew the cause of her death. He admitted that he felt very angry with the assailant for his mother’s death. He added that he felt relieved that his youngest brother was safe although wounded in the attack.
Aarsum said he didn’t expect the police would be able to arrest the perpetrator. What he was really concerned was the education of his four younger brothers because he didn’t think that he would be able to support their education without outside support.
"When my father was gone,I still felt relieved because there was my mother to give me moral support. And now she was gone, so I will try to be strong and do my best as the eldest brother because I still have four brothers to take care of plus my grandmother who is quite old now," said Arsum.
A neighbor praised Mrs Suhainee as a kind-hearted woman who was always ready to help her neighbours. She recalled an incident not long ago when Mrs Suhainee led a family whose father was killed to lodge a petition with the Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre to seek justice.
"I have pity for the children who were made orphan," said the neighbor, adding that she had no idea why Mrs Suhainee was killed.
